Managing your fire risks this harvesting season

21 September 2011

Fires during harvesting season are a common risk on rural properties. A fire can start either in the crops near the harvesting activity, or inside the harvesting machinery – often while it is being operated.

Australia’s recent good weather has increased the likelihood of additional natural fuel hazards this season, such as long grass around buildings and along vehicle tracks and driveways.

There are several actions that you can take to minimise the risk of fire. They range from simple steps of observing the weather to more involved steps such as making use of a spotter. Download a flyer with tips on how you can minimise your risk.

How CGU can help
CGU provides crop insurance against the risk of hail and fire. We also provide cover for equipment used throughout the harvesting process.

While also serving as a reminder to be vigilant in regards to fire safety, the harvesting season is also a good time to check your sum insured to guard against the worst-case scenario occurring.
