It’s a big figure 25 million, but that’s the number of bags the world’s airlines misplaced in 2009, according to a new baggage report by SITA*.
It means that on average one in every 100 people who fly suffer that sinking feeling when they reach their destination and their luggage fails to show. That’s roughly one person on every domestic flight and four to five people on every long haul.
While only a small proportion of these 25 million bags are never recovered, it is incredibly inconvenient to arrive without your belongings and to have to wait sometimes days to be reunited with them.
It’s a common problem for travellers but if you have CGU travel insurance, you really don’t have to worry.
With CGU travel insurance you are covered for up to $400 for singles^ or $800 for couples^ for emergency purchases of clothing and toiletries if your luggage has been misdirected, misplaced or delayed by your carrier. These amounts are doubled if your luggage is still not returned after 72 hours.
We also cover up to $1,000 for each item of general luggage (your suitcase and clothes) and up to $4,000 for item for cameras and electronic items such as your laptop or mobile#.
Of course, we also cover the cost of reissuing or replacing travel documents, credits cards or travellers cheques while you are there.
Maybe you are going on a golfing or skiing holiday and really can’t wait for your equipment to arrive? Don’t sweat about that either. With CGU’s Super Plus travel insurance plan, we will cover the hire of golf clubs and ski equipment if it damaged or delayed in transit.
