Certificate III in OHS reflects the application of a broad range of OHS, communication, information, and workplace relationship skills. This training and assessment program offers an efficient pathway towards the qualification; it is designed to help you develop and demonstrate competency in the broad range of skills by combining OHS Representatives training with formal assessment, including recognition of competencies acquired through prior formal and informal learning.

Who should attend?
People whose main job is not dedicated to OHS but who take it on as a voluntary duty such as: Health and Safety Committee members or Health and Safety Representatives. Alternatively, this qualification is a good starting point for those wishing to pursue a career in Occupational Health and Safety.
Program overview
The qualification requires twelve units of competency (seven OHS and five electives). The training component requires attendance at the Health and Safety Representative course plus carry out a workplace assessment project within 6 months.
Part A – Training
Attend the Health and Safety Representative course:
- Understanding and applying OHS legislation - Consultative processes and functions of Health & Safety Representatives
- Hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control
- Risk assessments using specific topics, e.g. manual handling and noise
- Incident investigation
- Occupational Health and Safety management system
Part B – Assessment
Complete a series of workplace activities over a period of time (nominal duration six months), compile evidence of applying OHS and general business skills and submit a portfolio for assessment. Refer to the brochure for information on the required competencies and assessment.
What do I receive?
A Certificate III Occupational Health and Safety will be awarded to those who complete the training and meet the requirements for assessment.
