What support will I receive to help manage my injuries?

Injury Management Plan

CGU will prepare an Injury Management Plan if you are required to have seven or more continuous days off work due to your injury.

An Injury Management Plan (IMP):

  • provides you, your employer and your nominated treating doctor with a detailed plan of the steps required to ensure you can safely return to work, including medical management, treatment and rehabilitation goals.
  • CGU will develop the plan in consultation and agreement with all relevant parties within 20 days of CGU being notified of the injury
  • if you are injured, you need to participate and cooperate in the development of an Injury Management Plan. Your plan will state the responsibilities of all parties involved and outlines the consequences of failing to meet obligations

Return To Work Plan

Your employer must prepare a Return to Work Plan that:

  • describes how they will help you return to work after an injury
  • is based on your doctor’s recommendations of what you can and can’t do, and the hours and days you can return to work
  • is written in consultation with you. You should request a copy for your records.

If your doctor thinks you are fit to work but has placed restrictions on what you can do at work, your employer will consider if you can return to work on suitable duties, such as:

  • parts of the job you were doing before the injury
  • the same job, but on reduced hours
  • different duties altogether
  • duties at a different site
  • training opportunities
  • a combination of some or all the above.

You must make all reasonable efforts to ensure you actively participate in both the injury management and return to work plans and co-operate in working towards the goals.
